Build Up #

Following the Sandar Revolution (390-388 PBD), the new leader of Sandar and former noble of Sadoln's court Lord Bern Stein managed to unite the Sandarian people under a rhabdophobic doctrine, written in the Pamplets of the Mundane.[^1] This abhorrence of magic, sparked from the atrocities committed during the reign of Sadoln, crystallized the hatred of the Sandarian people into a spear that could be easily directed by Lord Bern and his new court.

Ultimately Lord Bern would successfully garner the obedience of the people of his nation, dispelling any resistance to his leadership by promising to protect Sandar from the "evils of the arcane".

Inciting Conflict #

The Mundane War officially started in 385 PBD, where Sandar invaded Falla, citing that magic had corrupted the neighboring kingdom. Lord Bern gave fearmongering speeches about Falla's warrior-mages, and that the pro-magic stance of King Robinar was a threat to Sandar's security. This was enough to unite Sandar in a vision for conquest, culminating in the invasion of Falla.

Falla mounted a poor defense of their lands, with their security forces young, inexperienced, and led by generals with no exposure to actual warfare. Within a couple days, Falla's rural regions were razed and hundreds of Fallan civilians--mainly farmers--were slain for "supporting dangerous, violent, pro-arcane sentiments". In an attempt to prevent further bloodshed, Robinar set out with his family to meet Lord Bern on the battlefield, invoking ancient customs of trade in order to spare the bloodiness of war. Bern agreed to meet with Robinar, but had his men fire upon the Fallan royal family with arrows as they approached.

Seeing that Lord Bern had no intention of negotiating peace, and that they stood no chance in a battle against Sandar's forces, the Fallan generals offered to pledge their armies to Lord Bern, becoming Sandarian warriors themselves. Lord Bern accepted this offer, and ordered these new generals of his to purge their military ranks of mages of any sort. Lord Bern gave specific orders to have all Fallan mages skinned alive and strapped to the tops of towers until birds had picked their bones clean. In exchange for enacting this brutality, Lord Bern allowed the Fallan generals and their armies to unite with Sandar.

War with Danthol #

Danthol was a much more powerful nation than the traditionally peaceful Falla, and they immediately began to bolster their borders after seeing what Sandar had done. Panic gripped Danthol, and they attempted to rally aid from Nungul and other nations across Hohm who would clearly not stand with Sandar.

The invasion of Danthol began in 384 PBD, and it was conquered by 380 PBD.

The Interlude #

From 380 PBD to 376 PBD, Sandar took time to consolidate its power and enact inhumane, torturous execution against mages and pro-mage sympathizers.

Sandar Invasions Spread Across Hohm #

From 377 PBD to 373 PBD, Sandar launched attacks on numerous smaller Hohmite kingdoms, as well as conquering Nungul.

Sandar's Defeat #

In 372 PBD, Lord Bern was defeated by a splinter faction of his own men, led by Sir Azthur and provided intelligence by Isutan Khatkir.
